The next day was little Ian's blessing. It was fun to be there for it, and Ben also knew a few people in their ward, so that was fun chatting with everyone. I took some pictures for Ben and Jackie. It was a lot of fun.

It was fun to take pictures of them because they are just so cute. I loved how they wanted to lay down next to Ian and kiss him etc.
Now for the other part of the post... our other blessings. The route we take back and forth between State College and DC is full of back country 2 lane roads. We left a little late, so that part of our drive was at night. I ALWAYS nag on Ben to drive slower, safer, blah blah blah. Basically, I'm a really annoying peanut gallery. Anyways, we pulled up behind a semi truck that was going a little too slow for Ben's liking. He asked if he could pass him if it was safe. I said I guess so. On my phone/gps I could tell the road was straight so we wouldn't have to worry about a car coming around the corner. So Ben goes for it and guns it. Immediately we realize that while the road is straight, it has HILLS! There staring straight at us are a pair of bright headlights. I start screaming, and Ben swerves all the way into the left shoulder (still full speed of course). Then in order of avoid crashing into something on the shoulder, he swerves all the way to right back in our lane while dodging a second car and barely making it in front of the semi. And then I start bawling.
Here is a little diagram I made.
Don't worry, I didn't cry for long. My brain gave itself a mental slap in the face and said "Pull yourself together woman! You are safe now! No need for dramatics." So I stopped crying. Then, we see flashing lights in our rear-view mirror. A policeman was pulling us over. where in the WORLD did he come from? Remember, we barely made it back in front of the semi. Anyways, Ben gets out his license and I get out the insurance stuff. Ben rolls down the window and the officer sees a shell-shocked man, a shaking woman with tear streaks running down her face, and a baby SLEEPING in the backseat. That's right, James slept through the ENTIRE thing!
Back to the story- the officer says "Looks like that was a close call back there, everything alright?" Ben responds that yes, sorry, we are on our way back from DC and it's been a long day, etc. The officer then says "Well I just wanted to make sure you guys are alright. I see you have precious cargo back there." Ben says something back, and the officer says "well you look responsible, just be safe and we will leave it at that." We thank him profusely and he gets back in his car, turns around and drives away. Ben and I give ourselves a few minutes to recover. We conclude that he was THE NICEST MAN/OFFICER EVER! We also decide that he must have been one of the cars we dodged, because there were no other cars around. Really strange, because as he was talking with us the semi passed us. So he someone materialized out of nowhere or somehow got around the semi.
Anyways we are so blessed that we did not get into an accident. So blessed that the other drivers didn't try dodging us as well and just stayed straight on their path. Blessed that I didn't wake James up and scare him with my screaming. Blessed to not get a ticket. Blessed to get home safely. We seriously had some heavenly help with that. The next day while Ben was studying he watched the music video for Carrie Underwood's "Jesus Take the Wheel". Apparently he teared up a little (wink wink). If you are not familiar with that song you should go listen to it. It fits perfect.
So that is what we have been up to. Just grateful to be alive!
