On Sunday James will be one month old! How did that happen??? It kind of feels like it has been one giant day since little Jay was born. I guess that happens when you spend your day 2-3 hours at a time, from feeding to feeding. Night times are a little better- he usually lasts 4-5 hours between feedings. But still- it's exhausting! I think Ben and I are getting even better at functioning on less sleep (although he will probably say that I am not... he is nice and lets me sleep more these days :)), or that it is seeming more normal so it doesn't totally drain us.
Here are some things that have changed since becoming parents:
* We love poop, and are (at least I am) significantly interested on what it looks like
* Our hands now also function as urine guards/blockers
* The word "cute" is in almost every sentence
- Here is a story about that one. Ben was watching Sports Center or ESPN or whatever, and there was a clip of some basketball player rebounding the ball into the hoop with one hand or something cool. They replayed it and Ben was like, "Whoa cool, watch this!" I watched it and exclaimed "So cute!" Yeah, it was awkward.
* We now laugh when we hear a baby cry or scream
* We never thought that "passing gas noises"could be funnier
* Burps are awesome and welcome
* 5 hours of sleep is AMAZING!
* Sleeping with a pillow over your head is relaxing
Despite all the hard aspects of being new parents, we love it! We love our baby James, and he makes us smile and laugh all the time. He has been having a hard time eating- turns out he is a lazy eater. We have been meeting with an awesome lactation consultant, and keep learning all these tips and tricks to keep our little guy awake and active during feedings. Hopefully they will all pay off soon!
This past weekend Ben's mom was in town! It was sooo nice to have some help, after my mom had left a few days previous. Grandmas are seriously the best. Sometimes I wonder if James can tell that the grandmas are gone, and he is left with two inexperienced caregivers. We loved all the help that we got and are SO grateful for it.
Now for pictures!
