1. Finger Paint
I made some fingerpaint using sugar, cornstarch, salt, and some other things I don't remember. The point is... it didn't quite work out that well. Once it cooled it was all... jello-ey. So- we are going to try that one another day with a different recipe. Also, James wasn't too into it.

2. Playing Basketball
I bought a broom from the dollar store so I could sweep off our back porch for this purpose. James's hoop we moved outside, and it was pretty nasty back there. So, I swept it all clean, grabbed some of James's balls, and let him go. This is what happened.
clearly not a whole lot of basketball went on... we'll work on that.
3. Walks/The Library
To help lower my blood sugar levels, sometimes I go on walks. I try to go at least on one walk a day, if I'm feeling up to it. Last week, Ben had the car so I had the crazy idea to walk to the library. It's just a few blocks from our apartment, no big deal right? Well turns out that when you are 8 months pregnant, and it is really hot and humid outside, and you're pushing a stroller up and down hills (little ones, but still- I'm pregnant ok?) it takes about an hour to walk a few blocks (there and back). What was so important that I wanted to get from the library? Yes. It was Mickey Mouse Clubhouse DVDs because I was sick of watching the same 4 over and over and over again.
| James got to play for a few minutes while I rested. |
Since James is not really interested in the hoop, we let him run around outside the other day with some balls. It turned into James ditching his balls, running away, hiking up a hill, and playing at the playground by himself. Don't worry, he didn't really run away because we could see him the whole time. We just didn't feel like running up and down the hill like he did.

5. Coloring
I pulled out my big box of crayons the other day, and when I opened it James squealed and ran over. However, it turns out that I am more interested in coloring than he is. For now, James just thinks crayons are mostly fun to throw. Although he is getting better at actually making some scribbles.
At the beginning, things looked promising. I even traced our hands! Including Dillo's.

When is grocery shopping with mom not fun? I know, right? At least when we go to Walmart it's a blast.
Our next grocery trip I happened to plan during a torrential downpour! Seriously. I had to buy an umbrella from Wegmans it was so bad. And our current umbrellas have become cozy little homes to spiders on our porch. Ew. Even though the little guy was soaked (drool + rain = very wet little boy), James was a hit. One old man on a motorized cart even asked me if I got him off the shelf, in hopes he could get one too (sorry sir, although they do sell them at Walmart occasionally :)).
7. Surprise Visits to Daddy
This past Friday, I packed us a nice lunch and we headed over to campus to surprise Ben at his Legal Services job. It was fun. We ate, and James got to play around Daddy's office. He also had a poopy diaper which is when we realized we didn't have any wipes in our diaper bag. Oops. We used wet paper towels, and left Daddy's office with a pleasant scent :)
8. Cave In
Sometimes I just want to get the dishes done, shower, sit and rest, or whatever. So I put on Micky Mouse for James. Other times James throws a huge fit and throws himself on the floor, and I just cave in and turn on the TV. Sometimes I choose a happy, giggling dancing boy over a mad screaming boy. And when I say sometimes, I really mean most of the time. What can I say? I'm a pushover.
If you, or someone you know is suffering from this same addiction, I hope this post can give you some ideas. :)
