We recently had James evaluated through Early Intervention. We were concerned about his speech. He wasn't/isn't saying a whole lot. He jabbers ALL the time in his own little language but had few words he actually said, and he used them very rarely. Within the past few weeks, he has gotten a bit better. We have been having him drink through a straw to hopefully strengthen his mouth muscles, and I think it has been helping?
Anyways, through his evaluation we learned that he doesn't say the sounds that involve his lips like m,p, etc. He tested at 15 months in expressive language (speech), which meant he qualified for their services! In the next few weeks he will be starting speech therapy! We are excited for him to get the help he needs to better communicate his needs/wants. Hopefully it will really help him!
